“The Paintings of Valentina DuBasky and the Art of the Silk Routes in India”

by Valentina DuBasky

International Conference on Historical Arts and Asian Culture

at Kumaun University, Almora, Uttarakhand, India

The Paintings of Valentina DuBasky and the Art of the Silk Routes in India, a paper I wrote, was presented at an International Conference on Historical Arts and Asian Culture at Kumaun University in Almora, Uttarakhand, India, in November, 2017. In this paper, I discussed my research on four interconnected Silk Routes in India that were major routes for artistic exchange and development, and how the ancient and historical art of India’s SilkRoutes has inspired my own paintings. I shared my responses as a working artist to ancient Harappan art, and to my recent on-site visits to see the open-air Shekhawati frescos in Rajasthan and the Lakhudiyar rock art in Almora, Uttarakhand. These visits were conducted following my 2016 Fulbright Specialist Program in India at Kumaun University. The paper will be published in India.
